What is Shirodhara?
Shirodhara is one of the great purification and rejuvenating therapies. Purification therapy is a unique feature of Ayurveda involving the complete cleansing of body and thereby eliminating toxins. The technique effectively treats doshic imbalances in their advanced stages. Shirodhara is one of the great purification and rejuvenating therapies. It's a divine and relaxing method – a great rejuvenating therapy that gives a healthy glow – radiant skin. „Rejuvenate“ literally means ‚to make young again‘. In Sanskrit (an ancient Indian language) it means shiro = head and dhara = flow. In this thousands years old curative method the client is advised to lay down on the massage table in supine position (face upwards). A warm liquid (special curative herbal oil) is poured in a continuous thin stream over the forehead onto the scalp from a special bowl suspended above the client’s head.

For relaxation purposes it can be used occasionally, monthly or weekly. Our Ayurvedic physician determines the number of days of treatment for different problems. With weekly sessions, you will find relief from stress and strain encountered in daily life. In the treatment of the above mentioned non-serious diseases, it is convenient to go through some procedures no less than once a week. Ideally for a severe illness, the treatment lasts for 14 or 21 days depending on severity of the problem.

Should I do anything special to prepare myself for Shirodhara?
On the day of Shirodhara you should not watch TV, be at noisy place, go shopping, take any long trips, work on your computer, have sex or go to disco clubs, etc. since the nervous system must be relaxed. Please bring a cap or hat.
